My role

As a UX Designer, I focused more on the UI and visual direction of the website, while also considering the flow and business aspects. I helped in creating a consistent brand identity with various logo iterations and a main vision board for the client and my colleagues. I also shared my knowledge while designing the website with forward thinking approaches for the projects page and the about us page, since YouTube channels have different needs and communication than usual e-commerce businesses.

User research

In our user research phase, we relied on the client's extensive database of their demographics for fans and partners. We only did some visual research and desk research to tailor to the specific target audience, which was mostly male and aged 16-45. The main factor that connected them was the mainstream sci-fi feel of the channel, which we used as a strength for our ideas.

the process

The project involved three different phases:

1. In phase one, we did the exploration of what makes their brand so unique and recognizable as well as translating this into new brand identity that's still feels about the same, but it's much more flexible and scalable for all their utilitise as well as advertising.

2. In phase two, after getting approval on the new branding we started creating the website first beginning with sitemap, wireframes, and after getting that ironed-out and approved, we started creating visuals for each flow and pages.

3. In phase three, after final approval of the designs for each page, we started developing each section with various features and transition that we combined into two final working prototypes that we showed to the client, and then they chose the final one presented by Matteo finalising the project at the beginning of September 2023.

the Prototype

Our prototypes consisted of four pages: about us, projects, contact, and shop. These pages reflected the main aspects that our client wanted to emphasize on their website. The about us page aimed to introduce the client’s vision, mission, and goals to both fans and partners. The projects page showcased the client’s previous work and demonstrated their expertise and creativity. The contact page offered different options for fans and partners to get in touch with the client, and set clear expectations for the response time and quality. The shop page allowed the visitors to purchase the client’s products or services online.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this project was a remarkable and memorable experience for me. I had the privilege of working with my favourite tech YouTuber as my client and being part of their massive brand transformation. I learned how to work with large clients who have diverse target audiences, and how to adjust the design and communication of the product to suit both. I also had the opportunity to work under the guidance of Flux Academy and with amazing Art Directors like Matt Brunton and Ran Segall. This was a dream come true for me in the summer of 2023, and I enjoyed every moment of it. I would love to do something like this again!
